Malaysia - Malaya, Singapore, Borneo

31 August is the day we celebrate independance.

We were no one in no where and has nothing to start with ... ( at least not significant enough to leave any political trails. But there are significant geographical and historical trails thao )

Then ships started to travel along strait of Malacca. Ships docked, habour built, we soon evolve into a civilization of our own. Most new activities were introduced by people who came down from the ships, mostly China and India. The locals were called Malays.

Natural resources were soon found to be abundant, mainly were mining and plantation. Hence colonization started, slaves were used to harvest natural resources, the locals were hired to administer. Malaya became the LARGEST tin and rubber producer in the world.

British took over since 18th century. The 'goverment' running our lands is British Malaya. During that period, communist was the major anti-goverment force, wanted to fight for independance so they said.

During world war 2, Japan took over by force and sinificantly leave an effect that colonization era is over. Hence British wanted to help us gain our independance but didn't want to transfer power to the communists who had been fighting for it. Malayan Union was formed and eventually its the Federation of Malaya gained the independance on 31 August 1957. A British educated goverment servant was named the father of independance because he was the one who worked closest with the colonist. We are one of the most unique countries in the world who gain our independance without as much blood as it was in other places. We talked our way to freedome or basically we were given our freedom by the British.

Indonesia on the other hand was considered ahead of us by declaring their own independance as soon as Japanese left and before the Dutch came back.

Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo, also under the care of British were much slower on the other hand. They were just more primitive and had no ability to politically manage themselves, at least thats what the British was thinking. These are the land of conflicts too, respectively claimed by Indonesia, Brunei and Philipines.

But time was running out, the British had to leave soon because they were the last colony in the region. So all three join the land of Malay and formed Malaysia on 16 Sep 1963. Singapore was later kicked out on 1965.

All these are just less than 3 generations away. My grand father migrated from China to North Borneo to fix trucks. During high schools, I had school mates who migrated from Philipine. As far as their previous education is concerned, North Borneo was still a part of Philipine. In one accidental fire, my philipine classmate Gilbert lost his life when helping to put off the fire ...

So Malaysia is 46 years old by 16 Sept, how mature can Malaysia be ? Probably at best as mature as I am ?

31 August is the day we celebrate independance ...
Malaysia is the land of Malay ...
Islam is the religion of the country ...

Celebrating independance doesn't mean we forget about Borneo. Land of Malay doesn't mean non Malay have to leave. Enforcement of Islam as country's religion doesn't mean other religion has to be surpressed. Raising keris doesn't mean I have to raise my sword.

How mature can the 46-year-old Malaysia be ? Probably not as mature as I am.

If there are no politicians, there are no racism ...

cockroach LEG in Old Town White Coffee drink

Following sales pressure from McD, Old Town White Coffee also introduces RM 5.90 lunches.

Lunch comes with Pepsi, but you can change to coffee by adding RM 1

Pepsi costs RM 3 normally.
and a cup of HOT Old Town White Coffee is normally RM 2.80
So by changing from Pepsi to White Coffee, its actually a downgrade from RM 3 to RM 2.80 but you need to pay RM 1 for it.

Picture below is actually a snapshot inside a soft drink. The black thing is a straw. Did you see anything to the right of the straw ?

It A cockroach LEG !!

They changed the drink for me but show NO SIGN of apology NOR has they done anything to improve hygene of the shop.

Satay - BBQ meat on stick

This is Satay! One of the my favorite foods in Malaysia. One of the key reasons why I haven't migrated yet ... This is chicken meat.

There are also beef (in picture below) and lamb meats availables.

The real reason I love satay is not the meats, its the sauce. Peanut cooked in sauces with spicy oil. It will be one of the main reasons why I have heart attack in future but heck its worth it !

And to counter the health issues, they usually also serve with some veggies ( cucumber and onions ) to counter the cholesterol effect.

Kill Earth for RM 0.10 only !

Recession, Inflation, Deflation ... Life has been tough hasn't it ? But you know what is CHEAP ? Killing Earth !! It costs only 10 cents !!

Check this message out by Ikea - largest house hold DIY shopping arena ...

Basically it says, don't use plastic ....

Or else this GREEN turtle will die ....

However, if you want to kill the turtle anyway, you can do so by paying RM 0.10 or RM 0.20

Public Toilet ... Simple, Easy, its FREE !

Just turn around and pee on wall, no one can see how small your gun is ...

Whew, done ....
Walk back to where I was ....
Continue waiting for girlfriend ...

Round About or just U turns ?

If you use the old road going to Ulu Yam, you may find this signboard familiar ...

Is this a Round About ? Or just some connecting roads ?

Its indeed a round about, but I haven't seen one like this in other part of worlds ...

Pontian Wan Tan Mee - Kepong

This shop is actually called "Stupid Jane", apparently its the chinese word for Pontian ? The whole big corner shop is just selling wan tan mee, supposingly a famous place for wan ton mee ?

Internal layout really simple and straight forward, NOT those normal coffee shop nor is it star buick style, its somewhere in between.

There are 5-6 flavors of wanton mee, I ordered the 'tomato' style. Apparently its just wanton mee with maggi tomato sauce in it. But there is this slight sour taste in it, I cann't say I hate it ... Its just 'different' than the normal wanton mee.

The Fried Sui Gao, meat (shrimp) dumpling on the hand is great ! Very cruncy !

Coffee is ok too, the Old Town style.

Recommended once a month if you are into wanton mee. Its near Public Bank in Kepong, right out of main road Jalan Kepong.

Random : Rubbish Can

Saw this rubbish holder in a bank ...

Basically its a hole in it. How can one clean and mantain this thing ? The cleaners have to pick the rubbish out one by one ?

Oh ... Just pull out the whole plastic container inside.

I wonder what if people throw away all the coins or heavy stuff. Can the cleaner still does her job ?

Unique Scenes in different countries

In Singapore, you reserve seats by putting a pack of tissue on the chair, sometimes hanging an umbrella is ok too.

In China, we go on holiday for the sake of holiday. Chinese is the No.1 population in the whole world, no one is complaining about crowdness ...

We are still Americans, we love to do things despite all conditions ...

There are emotion gods in Greek, animal gods in China and in India, its the cute mice ...

Indonesia goverment said building a train can improve businesses near the rail ...

No chicks like a skin peeling love making stick ....
It takes ZERO engineer to build a ship in Cambodia ...
